About renders - The image I have supplied was created by me in Bryce. Renders are fantastic to use as backgrounds in tags! If you want to purchase renders for tagging purposes please visit the CILM website and check out the awesome work of Darren Hiles.
Lets start!
Open the render I supplied in PSP.
Open a new image 400 x 400 with a transparent background
Selections > Select all.
Go back to the Render
Edit > Copy
On your new image Edit > Paste into Selected Area.
Keep Selected.
Selections > Modify > Contract.
Contract by 15 pixels.
Promote Selection to Layer.
Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow.
Add the following Drop Shadow;
Keep Selected.
Selections > Modify > Contract > Contract by 30 pixels.
Selections > Invert.
Repeat above drop shadow.
Deselect.
Merge all layers visible.
Edit > Copy
Open a new image 650 x 400 and floodfill with white.
Edit > Paste as a new layer.
Resize by 85% with bicubic resample, all layers unchecked.
Duplicate this layer.
Resize the duplicated layer by 85% and move to the left of the original layer.
On your layers palette, move the duplicate layer underneath the original layer.
Duplicate the copy
Image > Mirror
Highlight the front, middle render layer.
Go to Adjust > Hue and Saturation > Hue/Saturation/Lightness.
Apply these settings;
Apply the same drop shadow to all three layers then close off the white background layer and merge all visible.
Duplicate your merged layer and resize the duplicate layer by 85%
Repeat the Drop Shadow.
Make the original merged layer the active one
Effects > Distortion Effects > Wave.
Apply the following settings;
Set the blend mode on this layer to Exclusion;
Duplicate this layer and on the duplicate reapply wave changing the settings to the following;
Resize both of your wave layers by 90% and reduce the opacity on both to around 44.
Close off your white background layer and merge all visible.
Resize the merged layer by 85%
Open your tube.
Copy and paste it onto your render tag as a new layer - resize as appropriate.
Apply the same drop shadow to your tube as we have used throughout the tut.
Go to your pre-set shapes tool and select rectangle with these settings;
Choose a dark colour from your Render for the foreground and close off the background in the materials palette.
Draw a rectangle around your image, when you are happy with the placement convert to raster layer.
***
Now, draw out another, smaller rectangle and place to the bottom left hand side of your canvas;
Take the magic wand and click once inside the small rectangle.
Selections > Modify > Expand.
Expand by 2 pixels.
Highlight the large rectangle layer and hit delete once.
Deselect
***
Repeat the steps between the *** this time positioning the smaller rectangle on top right hand side of the tag.
Close off all layers except the rectangles and merge visible.
Apply the following inner bevel to your rectangle layer;
Add a new raster layer and position it below the rectangle layer in your layer palette.
With your rectangle layer the active one, click once inside the small left hand rectangle with your magic wand.
Hold down your shift key and click once inside your right hand small rectangle.
Both rectangles should have the marching ants showing.
Selections > Modify > Expand.
Expand by 2 pixels.
Activate the new layer under your rectangles and floodfill both selected areas with white.
Keep selected!
Go back to the original render image.
Take your selections tool set to rectangle and select an area of the render.
Edit > Copy.
Deselect.
Go back to your tag and with the floodfilled layer the activated one go to Edit > Paste as a new layer.
Move the render selection underneath one of your selected rectangles.
Go back to your render image and select a different area.
Copy this selection and again paste as a new layer on your tag.
Move this one underneath the other rectangle.
Selections > Invert.
Hit delete once.
Highlight the other render selection layer and hit delete once more.
Selections > Select none.
Lower the opacity of both the rendered layers you just added to around 64.
Highlight your rectangle layer and apply the same drop shadow we used earlier.
Merge all visible.
Now we add the text.
Set your background to pattern and using the drop down box in the materials palette find the original render image, set the scale to 10.
Keep the foreground set to the dark colour you used for your rectangles.
Select your Font, A fat one works best, I used LHF Brianna with these settings;
Apply the name for your tag (we are going to be applying the same name again so tick the box at the bottom of the text box "remember text") and position it at the bottom, use the vector nodes to stretch the text to fit along the rectangle frame.
Once you are happy with how it looks convert the layer to raster and reduce the opacity to 74.
Set your background colour to black and reapply your name (if you checked the remember text box when we first applied our name it should appear when you click on the tag with your text tool, no need to retype!).
Stretch the text out so that it is slightly smaller and fits just inside the first text layer.
When you are happy with how it looks convert to raster layer.
Apply the same inner bevel to your black text as we used on the rectangle frame.
All I ask is that you do not share this render through tube groups etc and if you want to use it for anything other than tagging please write to me and ask me first. I usually say yes!
